Storyboard/Video Sample
Tools: Keynote/iMovie
Time: 2 hours
Client: This is a concept project, but the potential client would be a school or educational institution with a new teacher training program; or a professional development organization giving teacher training seminars focused on behavior management.
Collaborators: The potential collaborators would be me, the organization, and its potential clients (the teachers).
Challenge:
The challenge in this project would be to work with an educational institution or training organization to find a way to take a concept many potential clients have some knowledge of like "behavior management" and present it in an engaging, thought provoking, and effective way so that the recipients of the training both learn and apply that learning in practice.
Solutions:
I explored the idea of storytelling as a means of engagement and as a learning strategy for adult learners in this sample. You can see my storyboard, created in Keynote, that helped me to organize the story into small pieces, provide helpful visuals, and create thoughtful, concise narration. You will also see the finished video product (at the bottom of this page) created using the storyboard for guidance, altered slightly after a round of peer feedback.
Ideally, this video would be used as a part of an interactive ILT course where participants could then discuss similar/dissimilar situations as well as their thoughts on the strategy presented in the video as it relates to their daily job experiences and needs.
Result:
A successful implementation of the storyboard would mean that another developer could recreate this video (or a near copy) utilizing the storyboard for guidance.
A successful implementation of the video within a larger training program may be measured by how often employees use the behavior strategy from the video in daily practice and also by a decrease in student discipline/behavior incidences identified by the educational institution's behavior/discipline data.
