Science Tools: A Video Lesson with Quiz
Tools: Powtoon; Google Forms
Time: 3 hours
Client: Learners in a training about tools used in scientific processes
Collaborators: Though this lesson was self-developed, I had to follow standards, provided by the organization to ensure required content was covered.
Challenge:
I was given the challenge of creating an e-learning opportunity for a group that covered the basics of scientific tools, their names, what they measure, and how they may be used. Because the learners came from a neurodivergent group, the lessons had to be succinct, engaging, and easy to follow. Additionally, the quiz required the used of minimal text and image based questions to better access the knowledge of the learners and their ability to complete the tasks at the maximum level of independence.
Solutions:
I created an engaging video using Powtoon that placed the learners in the role of a secret agent. After completing their two video missions, complete with supporting images and voice over, the students demonstrated their knowledge via a quiz that contained the same images to support learning transfer. The quiz was auto-scored and scores were updated within the LMS as students completed the assignment.
Result:
The learners demonstrated an overall competency level of 23.25/25 possible points on the quiz. or 93%. The learners also noted favorable engagement levels during the videos.
